Looking for Couture Vintage?

We attended a beautiful little wine tasting at Bowen’s Cafe Expresso along with dinner and a fashion show featuring the most gorgeous couture vintage. Most of the models looked familiar because I think they were all HP sophomores, the same grade as my (handsome, HP football playing) nephew. A few weeks ago, Scot and I had actually stood outside the window of this brand new gem in Snider Plaza, admiring a pair of very old SMU cowboy boots complete with colorful inlay. We couldn’t go in because the store is by appointment only unless you’re lucky enough to cruise by on a Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday between 11 and 4. Remember that beautiful floral embroidered vintage jacket from Saturday Sun? Well, that was a gift from yours truly, Commonwealth Couture.

Backstage At Accessible Luxury

We couldn’t resist shooting the ghostly images that were happening backstage at this year’s Accessible Luxury featuring the intricate designs of Oscar de la Renta. And it was quite a chaotic yet highly managed backstage scene. Everyone from the hairstylists to the show producers were working at supersonic speed and right on task. It was an impressive sight.

Mad Hatter’s Tea Spring Runway

This year’s Mad Hatter’s Tea showcased indie boutiques Cicada, V.O.D., Betty Reiter, and Forty Five Ten on their Spring runway. It never hurts when your runway producer is Jan Strimple and almost every look was amazing. One of our favorites was a cotton sky blue skirt with art deco embroidery paired with a black cotton drawstring top. It reminded me of something Diana Vreeland would have worn in the summer of ’47. Another favorite was a Moroccan paisley tiered skirt with lamé details. We loved the miniskirts, the array of strappy sandals, and the warm color combinations. There wasn’t much to dislike in this collection and it was exciting to see so many modern looks at the traditional Mad Hatter’s event.

Fresh Faces + Nhã Khanh

The Fresh Faces of Fashion show was a spectacular presentation to raise awareness for The Suicide and Crisis Center. Krystal Schlegel and eleven other young style ambassadors walked the runway to show their support. Nhã Khanh dazzled the crowd with her Spring 2012 collection preview. Contrast leather details and a color palette of canary yellow, black, and ivory added an exciting new spin to Nhã Khanh’s familiar classics. I’ve got my eye on one of those asymmetrical dresses for my summer wardrobe!

Poolside Soirée

We received an email from one of our street style favorites about a little poolside soirée atop Mockingbird Station. We had already settled into a night off, but we couldn’t resist the fashionable photo ops that might be happening on a loft rooftop during sunset. It was sort of an old school runway event with commentary on each styled look. A refreshing change from the highly produced shows we’ve attended all season. Abby Gregory’s styling, who had to work within the realms of certain brands and stores for each look, was completely inspiring. So let’s start working on that poolside tan!

Vintage Post / DIFFA

Since we are attending the DIFFA Table & Ticket event tonight we wanted to republish the pictures that we captured at last year’s main event. The 2012 Smoking Haute DIFFA collection, which benefits North Texas HIV/AIDS charities, will feature designer’s take on the famous couturier Yves Saint Laurent’s vision of the androgynous ‘le smoking’ tailored tuxedo. You don’t want to miss this fabulous event to see and be seen!
